Ecuador Bird Quiz 1: Upper Western Slope: (Quito, Pululahua, and Yanacocha)

Ecuador is a relatively small country, approximately the size of Nevada, yet it hosts more than 1,600 species of birds. Many of these birds are localized to specific sub-regions of Ecuador. For this reason our Ecuadorian quizzes are split into three specific geographic regions. This quiz contains a group of birds that can be found within an hour of Quito in the central plateau and on the upper western slope of the Andes at two quite different birding locations: Pululahua crater and Yanacocha. Because many birders begin their Ecuadorian trips in Quito, it is useful to become familiar with these species. Click on any thumbnail to begin, and click on the bird photo to reveal the answer.
